America Faces Threat to Democracy

A research organization warns that American democracy is in serious danger. They say the U.S. now counts as a "backsliding" democracy according to international experts. At the same time, leaders stopped telling the story of what America stands for - the ideals in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. This created an empty space that white supremacists and other extremists are filling with their own dangerous ideas. The organization says this threatens the very existence of our country, which was built by different regional cultures working together despite having different backgrounds.
