Can Congress Stop Trump's War Against Iran?

The ACLU explains that President Trump cannot legally start a war without Congress approval. The Constitution gives only Congress the power to declare war, not the president. Trump began bombing Iran in February 2026 without asking Congress first. At least 6 U.S. soldiers and over 1,000 civilians have died. The ACLU says this violates the Constitution. Congress can stop this war in two ways: First, they can use the War Powers Resolution to force the president to end unauthorized wars. Second, they can refuse to give money for the war since only Congress controls military spending. The Trump administration will soon ask Congress for billions more dollars to continue the war. Congress should say no and listen to Americans who don't want this war. When presidents start wars without Congress approval, they violate the Constitution and put people's rights at risk. The founders gave war powers to Congress, not one person, to prevent kings from dragging nations into war without accountability.
