In Houston, almost 1,000 home child care providers care for over 12,000 children daily, but these small businesses often struggle without proper support. A two-year pilot program helped 30 home child care providers by giving them money and business training. The program taught them to keep better financial records, save for emergencies like hurricanes, follow licensing rules, and run stronger businesses. When child care providers are stable, parents can work reliably, which helps all of Houston's businesses run better. The webinar will share what worked, how to expand the program, and what policies need to change. Presenters include experts from LISC Houston and Collaborative for Children who ran the pilot program. The session is based on a new research paper showing exactly how small investments in home-based child care create big benefits for working families and the whole economy.
